When you are in the market to buy an electric gate operator, there are a lot of styles to choose from.  Beyond the swing and slide gate operators we’ve already reviewed, barrier gates are another form of automated gates.  Sometimes referred to as Parking Gates, these are typically used more for traffic control as they don’t have a lot of stopping power.

A good barrier gate operator will have built in vehicle detection and reversing mechanisms to prevent barrier arms coming down on passing cars.  For example, the Federal APD G-90 has TWO built in vehicle detectors, Sensitive Reversing Logic and a back out timer built-in.  This makes for safe operation.  And if you’re in the business of parking, you want to make sure you are operating safely.

The barrier arm is another vital component of the barrier gate that requires a little forethought.  Depending on how much clearance you have around the operator, you are going to have to decide on whether you need a straight arm or and articulating gate arm.  Operators inside a structure with low ceilings, such as a parking garage, will need to use an articulating arm.
